Eating the Last Authentic Key Lime Pie

Today I tasted the last authentic key lime pie that exists in the country, Steves Authentic Key Lime Pies – or so they proclaim.

What makes it authentic, you ask?

Steves Authentic Key Lime Pies uses the finest and freshest ingredients available, including 100% freshly squeezed key lime juice.

Getting there from Manhattan

Getting to the location from Manhattan was quite the adventure. Since the store is located in Brooklyn, I took the subway down to Wall Street station to transfer to Borough Station, which is in Brooklyn. After getting out of the subway station, I then took an MTA bus, which was only a few minutes away. Finally, I walked several blocks to finally reach this destination.

When I was finally approaching, I noticed the red brick building and a yellow car parked outside with the store’s name on it.

As I got closer, I saw a small entrance where a staff member took orders and fielded any questions.

You can select from a number of sizes including

  • 10 inch key lime pie ($35)
  • 8 inch key lime pie ($22)
  • 4 inch key lime pie ($5.50)

They also had the Swingle available, which were frozen tarts on a stick dipped in Belgian chocolate.

I opted for a 4-inch key lime pie and sat down with my order on one of the many picnic tables in front of the store. My initial impression was that it wasn’t lime green, as I typically have observed in the past. It looked like a cheesecake, as a matter of fact. However, when I dug my spoon in, the consistency gave the expected consistency of a key lime pie.

The first bite was delightful! And each subsequent bite was as delightful as the first. It was tangy, sweet, light, and refreshing. With the bits of graham cracker crust (which was also perfection) in the bite, it was absolutely glorious and worth the travel out here. Unlike other key lime pies, this particular one does not have an artificial taste to it. I suppose that’s where the 100% squeeze lime juice comes in with its winning flavor.

My friend came with me, and she doesn’t even like key lime pie and loved this one.

As I was eating, numerous people went back to get another pie. I overheard them say how delicious it was, and how they wanted to take more back home.

Final Thoughts

It’s a delicious pie. Try it and you won’t regret it. While you’re in the area, check out the lovely Valentino Park and Pier which is right next to the key lime pie store. You can see the Statue of Liberty from the park and pier. Additionally, Ikea is also a few blocks away.

A short walk is Park Slope, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. Park Slope’s 5th Avenue (not to be confused by 5th Avenue in Manhattan) is one of the most exciting streets full of delicious restaurants, shopping, cafes, bars, and more.

Make sure to incorporate this store as a stop in your Brooklyn adventure next time!
