A simple but incredibly delicious and nutritious smoothie drink that you’ll keep making!
Hailing from South and Central America, acai berries are reddish-purple fruits that can be harvested from acai palm trees. Enriched in antioxidants, the fruit has been touted for its health and anti-aging properties. I started making acai smoothies at home after trying a delicious Acai bowl in Hawaii.
In this recipe, I share my go-to Acai smoothie recipe. But really, you can make an Acai bowl as well by keeping the consistency thick (just add less milk) and then top with your favorite ingredients (like fruit, coconut flakes, nuts, etc.)
A key ingredient to this recipe is the frozen acai puree. My favorite is Trader Joe’s Unsweetened Organic Acai Puree Packets. I’ve tried other brands, however, I’ve found that this one tastes the best.
Additionally, make sure you’ve got a ripe banana.
The choice of milk is up to you – I’ve tried whole milk, 2% milk, and oat milk. All of these yielded the same delicious results.
Then comes the frozen fruit! You can truly add any frozen fruit you’d like. I’ve tried frozen blueberries (as well as fresh ones), frozen mangos, and a fruit medley as well.
Overall, I think that the biggest impact on flavor is the acai puree. I think that with the Trader Joe’s one that I recommended, the smoothie is a 10/10. However, with other brands that I’ve tried, the taste drops to 4/10. I recommend playing around with different brands to test which flavor you like the best.
You will also want a blender to blend all the ingredients together into a delicious concoction.
